Season 6: Episode 134: Grampy and Nu-Nu Visit the Huxtables
Martin's parents come to town for a visit. Denise worries about making a good impression on Mrs. Kendall, and Martin doesn't help matters by suggesting that she tone down her wardrobe while his mother is in town. He again reminds her that his mother cannot stand her. Denise is so afraid of talking to Mrs. Kendall that she tries to hide in the kitchen. She tells Clair about Mrs. Kendall's comments, and runs off in tears. A furious Clair decides to have a talk with Mrs. Kendall. Denise drags Martin and Olivia out of the house, while Cliff and Mr. Kendall retreat to the basement to listen to jazz records. Mrs. Kendall insists that she criticized Martin for behaving impetuously, but said nothing about Denise. She explains the misunderstanding to Denise and offers the opinion that they will become good friends. The women yell at Martin for causing so much trouble. Clair and Mrs. Kendall join their husbands in the basement for a dance.
