Sondra and Elvin return from their honeymoon, and the Huxtables throw them a party to wish them well before they begin graduate school. Cliff presents Elvin with a stethoscope, but he turns down the gift and announces that he has decided not to go to medical school. He wishes to train with some friends and eventually open his own wilderness store. Cliff is furious, and Clair has to take him to the kitchen to calm him. She convinces him that Elvin should be able to pursue his dreams, and might eventually change his mind. When they return to the living room, Sondra informs everyone that she has decided to forego law school to help Elvin with the store. Clair loses it, and Cliff has to drag her away to the kitchen. Cliff and Clair later have dinner with Sondra and Elvin in their tiny, cramped apartment. Sondra reveals that she has given up on plans to interview for a tour guide position at the U.N. because Elvin has lost his job at a pharmeceutical factory. They need money immediately, so she must take a waitress job. Cliff tries to convince Elvin to take a little money, but he says that they will make it on their own. Theo tries to talk his parents into giving him his college tuition money so that he can start his own business right after high school.
