The Sierra Mist Stand Up or Sit Down Comedy Challenge | Friday, November 17 at 10/9c
5 comics compete before a live audience to determine the best new comedian in the Sierra Mist Stand Up or Sit Down Comedy Challenge.
Comic Relief | Saturday, November 18 at 9/8c
The live, all-star comedy event, Comic Relief 2006, will be presented from Caesars Palace in Las Vegas as part of the second annual edition of The Comedy Festival. The special will be hosted by Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg and Robin Williams, who also hosted the first eight "Comic Relief" events on HBO. The telecast will include a live remote from Harrah's Fulton Street in New Orleans and will showcase the work of New Orleans filmmaker Kenny Morrison. Other performers will be announced as they are confirmed.
With Comic Relief's mission to unite the comedy community behind some of society's most relevant causes and pressing needs, Comic Relief 2006 will help families affected by Hurricane Katrina in the rebirth of New Orleans, raising funds to help them rebuild their homes and tangibly address causes that kept victims from escaping.
For 20 years, Comic Relief has been one of the major homes of activism among the comedy community. The Comic Relief organization has produced more than eighty shows, including the first eight major "Comic Relief" events seen on HBO from 1986 to 1998, which raised more than $50 million for programs aiding the homeless throughout the U.S. In 1992, Comic Relief mounted the first major benefit concert for victims of Hurricane Andrew, which raised $2 million in one night.
The Jim Henson Company’s Puppet Up! – Uncensored | Monday, November 20 at 11/10c
From the company that for fifty years has celebrated irreverence, creativity and performance comes The Jim Henson Company's Puppet Up! - Uncensored: a demonstration of what happens when the perilous and provocative forms of traditional comedic improvisation are mixed with a bunch of puppets. With a motley group of characters brought to life by the world renowned puppeteers of The Jim Henson Company, this is not your average night at the improv and it is definitely not for children. But all others are welcome to enjoy the uninhibited anarchy of live puppet performance as never seen before.
