Season 3: Episode 57: Vanessa's Rich
Vanessa invites two of the most popular girls in school to her house, as they are considering her for membership in the pep squad. They are very impressed by the Huxtables' wealth, and comment on the painting over the fireplace. Vanessa admits that it cost $11,000, and explains that the artist was Clair's great-uncle. Vanessa joins the squad, but the girls spread the word about the cost of the painting. Vanessa fights with two other pep squad members after they begin calling her a stuck-up rich girl. For some reason, Vanessa believes that she wouldn't have any problems if the family were poor. Clair tells her that she is not to blame for the girls' attitudes, as they should form their opinions based on who she is, not her family's financial status. Clair fears that Cliff will go overboard on purchases when he heads to the appliance store to buy a new TV remote. She calls the store and asks the owner (an old friend) to refuse to sell Cliff anything else. Theo teaches Rudy to play checkers, and she proves to be a very quick study. Theo initially becomes upset over losing to his sister, but then decides to play a trick on Cliff.
