Season 3: Episode 55: The March
Theo looks forward to a weekend of partying and fun because he doesn't have any homework, papers or upcoming tests. He is disappointed when he receives a C on a history paper and must spend the weekend revising it to improve his grade. Cliff assures him that he can redo the paper and still have time to hang out with his friends. Theo insists that his paper was good, and reads it to his parents and grandparents. The paper, which discusses the 1963 march on Washington, is based entirely on facts from a single library book. Cliff, Clair and the grandparents help Theo by relating their experiences at the march. They discuss the people they met and the prevailing feeling of hope and joy. Meanwhile, Vanessa tries to work up the courage to ask a boy to the "Turnaround Dance." Cliff recalls Clair asking him to a similar dance. However, Clair and her mother report that Cliff actually called Carrie and tried to bribe her into getting Clair to ask him out. Rudy helps Vanessa work up the courage to make the call, and the boy accepts her invitation.
