Season 2: Episode 38: Vanessa's Bad Grade
Denise denies Vanessa's request to borrow her new sweater to wear to a school dance. Vanessa and boyfriend Robert study for a history test together, but spend most of their time staring at each other and goofing off. They both get D's on the exam. Vanessa confesses the truth to Theo, but keeps the news from her parents so that they won't make her stay home from the dance. She takes Denise's sweater without permission. A furious Denise demands that she return it immediately, and they get into a fight. After catching Denise holding Vanessa in a headlock, Clair grounds both girls. Vanessa reveals her poor grade, and Cliff and Clair suggest that she and Robert study separately. Meanwhile, Clair grows frustrated with the exhausted Cliff's habit of nodding off whenever they go to the movies. Cliff blames the boring plot of the subtitled film.
