Season 2: Episode 34: Clair's Toe
Cliff and Clair plan to go out for a romantic dinner to celebrate the anniversary of the day he proposed. They decide to have a contest to see which of them looks "smoother," with the children as judges. While trying out her new shoes, Clair bangs her foot on a chest and suffers a broken toe. She refuses to use her cane, and stubbornly insists on doing everything herself. Russell gives her a new cane, and tricks her into using it by claiming that his father used it after suffering a knee injury while pushing a child out of the path of a train. He tells her that it is all right to ask others for help. Clair, sporting a decorative slipper on her injured foot, wins the "smooth" contest.
