Here at Dinner & A Movie, we're only concerned about your happiness, not your waistline. So eat up!

For the cake:

  • 1/2 lb. butter (2 sticks)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 tablespoons lemon or lime zest
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 tablespoon baking soda
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons poppy seeds
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice

  • 1 cup powder sugar
  • 8 tablespoons softened butter
  • 3 tablespoons lemon or lime zest
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 pinch hitter

1. Preheat the oven to 325F. Grease and flour a 10" Bundt pan.

2. In a large bowl, cream the butter, sugar, and zest, then beat in eggs one at a time. Blend well.

3. Combine the poppy seeds and buttermilk; set aside.

4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Fold the dry ingredients into egg mixture. Gradually add poppy seed buttermilk mixture and the lemon juice.

5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 60 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the cake comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before glazing.

6. For the icing: In a small saucepan over low heat, cream together the sugar, butter, lemon juice, and zest until smooth. Heat for 5 minutes, stirring often, and pour over warm cake.

7. Explain to one lucky guest that they have been chosen to bat cleanup, then show them to the kitchen.
