" Can't Buy Me Love" Crazy Mixed-up Kid

You can't buy love, but you can buy a goat!

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds fresh, lean kid (a.k.a. goat meat or chevon) or feel free to substitute lean lamb
  • 2 habenero peppers (or 4 jalapeno peppers)
  • 3 tablespoons chopped garlic
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons curry powder
  • 3 minced green onions
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup sliced, toasted almonds
  • 6 tablespoons clarified butter
  • 2 onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup dry white wine
  • 3 large ripe tomatoes, roughly chopped, or 1 28-oz. can chopped tomatoes
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 5 cups chicken stock
  • 8 small red potatoes, cut in quarters
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
  • cilantro, for garnish
  • 1 "I ? Goat" bumper sticker

Directions: 1. Get your goat.

2. Trim goat meat of excess fat and membrane and cut into 1 to 2 inch chunks.

3. Combine the chili peppers, garlic, black pepper, curry powder, green onions, cornstarch, olive oil, and half of the almonds in a food processor and grind into a paste.

4. Rub the paste well into the meat; cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour and up to 24 hours.

5. Heat 2 Tbsp. of the clarified butter in a large, heavy skillet and fry the sliced onion until brown and almost crisp; remove onion from the pan and set aside.

6. Heat the remaining clarified butter; brown the goat in 2 or 3 batches and set aside.

7. Add the wine to the hot pan, scraping the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon to release any tasty brown bits.

8. Add the browned onions, tomatoes, bay leaves and chicken stock and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes.

9. Add the potatoes, carrots and goat; cover and continue cooking until tender, about 45 minutes.

10. Stir in the coconut milk and rice wine vinegar and season to taste with salt and pepper.

11. Ladle into bowls and garnish with cilantro and toasted almonds.

12. Maybe you can't buy love but you can offer up a tidy sum to anyone willing to do the dishes.
