Brian on Design
Expert Brian Flynn was kind enough to provide us with the following design tips:- If your workspace happens to be in your garage, basement or attic, execute it with a design plan just like any other room in the house. The more personal the space feels, the more excited you will be to spend time in it.
- Lockers are a fantastic way to add storage and shelving to any space. Since they are not as expected as a bookshelf or armoire, they add a whimsy to the space.
- Striping your walls is a good option if the space is not practical for hanging art. If you don't have the budget to fill a larger room's walls, go ahead and turn the walls themselves into a work of art with vertical or horizontal stripes.
Items Used in this week's project:
Three of the paint colors we used were from BEHR such as Bleached Denim, Silver Strand and Dark Ash. Ralph Lauren in Dark Navy was the color of the top stripe.
Famous Lockers donated the lockers in the garage makeover. The tall lockers I used in the space were in Gray Ash and Slate Blue. The kid's lockers were Marine Blue.
IKEA supplied the lighting. The pendant lighting is the Ottava. The wall sconces are the Jod. The wall mounted picture light is the Bogsprot. IKEA also supplied us with decorative elements such as the mod plastic textured squares called Blimp Kullig and the wooden art figures, Gestalta
The sound machine we used in the work area is The Sound Soother from The Sharper Image.
The magnets I created were from the work of Jonathan Fenske via Matre Gallery.
The durable modular industrial grade flooring is InterfaceFLOR in House Pet -- Black Cat, Guppy, Ferret, Undercurrent -- Dark Gray and Blue Gray, Rugged Terrain -- Dark Gray and Working Class -- Warm Gray.
