The Mansion - Episode 7
A flower is only as pretty as its petals, and a mansion is only as grand as its decor. For the final project, the eight contestants get to lay down their tools and find furnishings for the rooms on the first floor of the house. Are the renovations truly finished? Who is that much closer to being the owner of The Mansion?

For the last and most important project, the group sits and carefully tries to decide who will be the last foreman. Dan and Michele both put theur names on the table, but Andy is once again in puppet-master mode, saying, "I'm killing myself trying to convince people that the last foreman should be Dan. If I can do that, I will have accomplished my goal as being a persuader." None of the other contestants--except Jeff and Elvis--are buying Andy's strategizing. "I'm only defending Michele so much because I want you to think about both of them, and not just boot out Michele because someone else says so. He tries to influence everyone's vote," says Sandi of Andy. Andy even tries to influence Dan to vote for himself so that he will be foreman.

The group meets with host Mark L. Walberg and votes five to three for Michele to be the foreman, to Andy's chagrin. "Dan didn't step up into the leader position when it was given to him. That's weak. Take the responsibility," he says. Michele is awarded the foremanship and is given the task to furnish and decorate the entire downstairs. This includes paint, furniture, accessories and whatever else is needed to finish the music room, main parlor, dining room and sunroom. The team is given $45,000 and three days. Their first task is to go to Ashley furniture to pick out the pieces to be delivered within forty-eight hours. Michele is concerned, saying, "You cannot furnish a house in three days. I'm going to venture to say that the next seventy-two hours are going to be a nightmare." Elvis echoes her apprehension, adding, "I didn't want Michele because she has a harder time making decisions. That's not a leader for me."

Michele, however, immediately jumps into her leadership role by making Dan her co-foreman, meeting with him to put together a plan of action, and then doling out tasks. She assigns the guys the job of getting a TV and having the marble pulled up in the sunroom and replaced. Jeff, Andy, and Elvis don't agree with the decision to take the tile out, thinking there isn't enough time to get the replacement material laid within the three days allotted. After some back-and-forth about possible cover-ups for the marble, Michele makes the executive decision to stick to her original assignment of pulling up the outdated flooring. "Some of the boys think they do all the work," says Michele. "I think they protested it because they didn't want to do the work."

Elvis and Jeff are sent on some errands while Michele and Dan also go together to complete tasks for the project. On the way, Michele and Dan discuss the personalities of the guys in the house and the success of the project. Michele offers, "I gave everyone very specific jobs to do. If those jobs aren't done, I'll know who is trying to sabotage the project." Jeff admits, "[Elvis and I] don't want to see Michele do well. We don't want to see her succeed." Michele calls to check in with Jeff and Elvis to find out where they are on their task list and how much money they'd spent. Several hours and many phone calls later, Michele realizes they will not get the supplies from Jeff and Elvis that they will need to complete that particular assignment. So she, Dan, Sandi and Andy go to Ashley Furniture to pick out the pieces for the different rooms.

Meanwhile, after having ignored the calls to their cell phones, Jeff and Elvis head to an electronics store and purchase a flat-screen TV for $5,000. Without a thought toward the cost or the other errands on their list, Elvis declares, "I'm part of the design team and I was told I could go out and buy a TV. They didn't specify we would buy it today or tomorrow, they just said I could buy the TV, so I did." Elvis and Jeff get back to the house and face Amanda and Kim, who remind them that they were supposed to bring back supplies for specific jobs that needed to be done that day. The guys fib saying they never received phone calls and they did indeed run around to complete their assignments. They also proceed to play roller-skate hockey on the hardwood floors, to Kim's shock who says, "It was wood-floor abuse. I'm sure the roller-blading contributed to the destruction to that floor."

Michele comes home and immediately demands the receipts. Upon viewing the one for the television, she wonders why they didn't call her about it. Michele yells at the guys, saying, "How are you a part of the design team when you are nowhere to be found during the day and by the end of the day haven't accomplished one design task I asked you to do? Those things should be finished and now we don't have the money to complete them because you blew the budget. If you sabotage this project, you sabotage yourselves!" Elvis and Jeff attempt to counter back but only make their purposeful efforts to drop the ball more obvious to the rest of the group. "Elvis and Jeff sabotaged the project on purpose. You could see the lies trying to pour out of Elvis," laughs Andy.

The next morning, Dan and Michele take two hours away from the work that needs to be done to return the plasma TV. The whole team then works late into the evening, including making some risky decisions on the wallpaper for the dining room and laying brick in the sunroom for a garden theme. By the third day, the Ashley furniture truck greets the group--two hours earlier than they were expected to arrive. While the team members scurry around to figure out where the delivered furniture will go, they receive a visit from Mark. He offers a check if one of the contestants will take him or herself out of the running for the mansion.

Mark says that he will give a check of $10,000 to the person who thinks they do not have a shot at the house. When no one accepts right away, Mark offers $15,000 and then makes a final offer of $20,000 before Amanda begins to consider it. "I'm not here for the money but bills are real at home," she says. In the end, everyone admits that they are here to win. "I don't think any amount of money could have made me leave. I'm here to finish what I started," says Sandi. The seven get back to work to finish the details in each of the rooms before the judging. The eighth team member, Elvis, is still asleep when the horn sounds to signal time is up. "Nobody woke me up. Every other project, someone always wakes everyone up so if you wanna talk about sabotage, they sabotaged me by not waking me up," Elvis says.

"I can not make a prediction about what the judges will award me because they have been so all over the map that it is enough to burn you out. I'm just glad it is over," says Michele. After Mark lets Michele know she spent $44,599.30 and that $400.70 will go in her pocket, he introduces the judges and sends Michele to meet with them. "I'm about to go see the judges and my body is shaking because I'm nervous and exhausted," Michele says.

Michele starts in the living room, where she explains that she and her team thought the space would be perfect for a family room. The judges agree but counter that it should have also been a home theater filled with some sort of technology--like a flat screen TV. "I think they owe me an apology for yelling at me for buying a TV. The judges suggested one should have there," says Elvis. Michele then learns that the judges appreciate the scratches on the floor that Elvis and Jeff created with their skating. Also to the group's surprise, the judges love the wallpaper that the group was unsure about, even while they were adhering it to the walls. "I love the wallpaper. It's classic, it's timeless, I love it," says Tom Stempfley. the last stop was the sun porch--and the equally as risky brick floors. Cassandra Dunson questions if the eight did the work themselves and Tim Carter offers, "It looks really good. I love the look of the floor in this room." Tom agrees saying, "I really like it too. I love that you chose to make it more of a garden breakfast room. That marble was hideous and I'm glad you did us all a favor by ripping that out." Jeff admits that he was wrong about criticizing the selection of the brick given that judges loved it.

Back with her teammates and host Mark L. Walberg, Michele learns she wins $8,275 out of $10,000. The shocker is that the judges only award the group three checks, one for $6206, one for $1655 and one for $414. Unprepared and confused, Michele thinks the fair thing to do is to keep the $6,206 and to give the $1,655 and $414 to her co-foreman, Dan. Mark reminds the contestants that neither the judges nor himself get to decide who wins the house. Rather, the viewing public will cast the final vote. With that, each of the eight is given the opportunity to make a final case for why he or she should win the house.

Jeff goes first and remembers why the house means so much to him, given that he grew up visiting it and its previous owners. Amanda feels she deserves it because she put her all into it and tried to be a good example for other single moms out there making it on their own. Kim states that as an older woman, she feels what she's been through makes her determined to use the house to reach out to youth and those who are physically challenged. Elvis reminds the viewers that he put the most love into the house and that he has a family--a wife and two daughters--who will benefit from his winning. Dan reflects on his enthusiasm and creativity to turn the house into a home and admits that, while his teammates deserve the house as much as he does, he thinks he is the one who will appreciate it most. Sandi admits that winning the house would dispel the myths that feminine women can't succeed in home improvement, construction and plumbing as she feels she put her all into renovating it. Andy invites the public to vote for him as he would share it with everyone by hosting parties each year whose proceeds would go to the charity of his choice for that year. Michele concludes saying that she has proven herself as a hard worker and a successful leader and that she has earned the opportunity to bring the love of the house to the family she'd like to start in it. The host reminds the contestants that their next step is to attend a dinner party where one person will be given the keys to the home.

Who will get those keys? YOU must decide! Beginning now through 10:00 AM/ET on Monday, November 15, cast your vote for the owner of The Mansion. Don't forget to tune in to the special prime time episode on Thursday, November 18 at 10:00PM/ET for the awards results.
