Outback Jack - Episode 1
Outback Jack - Episode 1

Twelve uptown girls, four limos, and one jump out of an airplane to meet the man of their dreams. Welcome to the Outback!!

As this outrageous adventure begins, our twelve female contestants are transported in stretch limousines to a beautiful mansion in the hills of Los Angeles. They're all bubbling over with excitement, hoping to meet their bachelor and begin wining and dining to win his heart. The ladies are soon disappointed to find out that he is not there. Host JD Roberto gives them the good news: the bachelor they will be competing for is in Australia! However, the ladies have no idea where in Australia they'll have to go to find the man of their dreams. (video)

After a seventeen-hour plane ride from the U.S. to the land down under, the ladies are given yet another surprise as they stand on a runway in Sydney. JD tells them that they must parachute out of an airplane into the middle of the Australian Outback to meet their man, Jack. Despite their apprehensions--at least one of the girls admits to being petrified of heights--all of the ladies make the leap of faith. Even more surprising, all of them land safely, albeit with some crazy hair and wobbly legs. They strip off their skydiving gear, revealing the evening gowns and formalwear they have hidden underneath. (video)

Whatever nerves or frustration the ladies have after their jump from the plane disappear when they finally meet Jack, the hunky Australian adventurer who will be the object of their affections for the next few weeks. After the introductions, Jack grabs a few pieces of luggage and leads them to their first campsite. The girls have a hard time hiking even the short distance to camp. Manolo Blahniks and designer gowns weren't meant for such rugged conditions. When the girls finally complete their trek, they learn that the campsite is not exactly the five-star hotel they were expecting. Struggling with the fact that there are no outlets, the showers are hand-pumped, and the bugs are everywhere, the girls don't know what to do. Jack tries to make them as comfortable as possible while they squeal and whine over the conditions. (video)

On their first full day in the Outback, Jack makes the girls survival kits--bandages, waterproof matches, and the whole deal. He then introduces them to the animals of the Outback and shows them what to do if they encounter one. He lets the ladies meet a monitor lizard, who sits quietly in Jack's hands, but becomes a woman chaser as soon as he's released. The girls scramble to escape the rambunctious reptile. Their fear escalates when they're introduced to a full-grown crocodile. Adrienne tells the viewers, "Jack told us what to do when you encounter a crocodile...you run." Later, Jack rewards the girls for their bravery by taking them to a magnificent waterfall. While swimming and sunbathing, contestant Marissa spends too much time in the sun and starts to show signs of dehydration. Upon evaluation, the medics feel it necessary to take her out of camp for proper treatment, leaving the other eleven girls and Jack worrying about her health.

That night, host JD Roberto shows up at camp and tells Jack that he must eliminate four girls the next morning. Before elimination, each girl is given the opportunity to talk to Jack individually. They dress for success (some even donning their short skirts and high heels), and meet Jack outside of his private tent. Ten heartfelt pleas and one song (performed by bubbly Mary) later, Jack is left alone to decide which ladies to send home.

The next morning, right before the vote, Marissa returns to camp. She's definitely feeling better, but still milks the attention from Jack. The other girls feel that she is using the illness to get closer to their hunky heartthrob. Before they have time to discuss the situation, the girls must pack up their stuff to either move onto the next campsite or to go home. They are all taken to the banks of the nearby river to meet their fate. Jack is obviously struggling with the decision, but decides to send Jillian, Laura, and Summer home. He does not have to choose a fourth, because Natasha decides to remove herself from the competition. With the elimination over, the eight remaining girls climb into the waiting canoes to continue their adventure. (video)
