OUTBACK JACK was shot on location in the El Questro
wilderness park, located in the northwest corner of Australia. El Questro
is a million-acre park near the township of Kununurra. The massive park
is mostly unsettled, although some regions feature vacation resorts popular
The Kimberley region is larger than all of Great Britain, but boasts
only 25,000 residents. It is one of the world's last unspoiled frontiers.
It is an ancient land extending from Broome in the South West to Kununurra
and Wyndham near the Northern Territory border.
Some other unforgettable attractions of the region include the Bungle
Bungle Range, in Purnululu National Park. The orange-and-black striped
mounds of rock are a striking geological phenomenon. They look like giant
beehives, and they shelter cooling gorges, crystal-clear pools and fan palms.
Kununurra serves as the gateway to Lake Argyle, which is more like an
inland sea than a lake. Freshwater crocodiles cruise beside tour boats
on the Ord River, and the wetland bird life and dramatic cliff scenery

in the world, with twenty-two kilometers of pristine white sands fringing
the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.
