Dawsons Creek - Katie Holmes

Exuding an exceptional maturity both on and off the screen, Katie Holmes has emerged as a true rising star in Hollywood, landing major roles in both film and television. In addition to her role on Dawson's Creek, Holmes can be seen in such films as "Abandon" opposite Benjamin Bratt, "The Singing Detective" with Mel Gibson and Robert Downey, Jr., "Phone Booth" co-starring Colin Farrell, and the independent film "Pieces of April" with Oliver Platt and Mekhi Pfieffer.

Sam Raimi's "The Gift" completed her transition from television to the big screen where she played opposite Keanu Reeves, Cate Blanchett and Greg Kinnear. Another big role for Holmes was Curtis Hanson's "Wonder Boys" with Michael Douglas and Tobey Maguire.

Previously, Holmes starred in the small-town sci-fi thriller "Disturbing Behavior," for which she won a 1999 MTV Movie Award for Breakthrough Performance, the dark comedy "Go" and the thriller Teaching Mrs. Tingle.

Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, Holmes began acting in high school theater productions, but didn't believe she had a shot at stardom living in the Midwest. She got her opportunity while attending a national modeling and talent convention in New York City, where she met a talent manager who encouraged her to come to Los Angeles for television's pilot season.

Holmes made her feature film debut in Ang Lee's acclaimed drama "The Ice Storm" playing the love interest of Tobey Maguire's character. She later landed the series regular role of Joey Potter on "Dawson's Creek" by sending in a videotape from Toledo during her senior year of high school.
