Runway Design Tips - Stripes

When it comes to decorating – everyone could use a little inspiration, right!? Well, now more than ever the latest trends off the runways are making their way into home décor. Who doesn't want a totally fashion forward home? Wide, skinny, zig-zag, wavy – the new stripe is back and bigger than ever. It's bright, it's bold and it's easier than you think to introduce into your existing décor.

Headboard Slipcover Not in your budget for a new custom bed? No worries, you can actually slipcover your headboard and adding a zig-zag stripe will change the look of the bed from traditional to modern. You can do this easily and affordably – and if you're not really up for a simple sewing project, just pin it together and take it to your tailor. Easy and a great focal point for the room!

Stripes on Stripes Believe it or not, you can really mix stripes with stripes. Chassie used a coverlet with small thin green mattress ticking stripes to complement the larger zig-zag stripe on the headboard. The trick when mixing stripes is simple: you vary the scale of the stripe and the shape to keep it interesting.

Lampshades Sometimes you want to ease into a pattern, and there’s no better way than with accessories. Chassie turned a plain white shade into a funky striped one simply by adding trim! All you need is ribbon and glue!

Rugs If you like to keep things super simple, there’s nothing better than going big with a strong stripe underfoot. Simply roll it out, and call it a day!
