The Shape of Things
Shapes and silhouettes are always important in determining trends, but this season the cut of clothing made major statements on nearly every designer's runway.UNEXPECTED PANT SHAPES: This season pants come in all shapes, sizes, lengths, and rises. Harem pants, high-waisted skinny pants, low-waisted baggy cropped pants...in fact, anything goes -- as long as it's not basic...the most fashion-forward choice is something that plays with proportion, and designers unanimously seem to agree that the cropped, slouchy shape is an essential -- and we're NOT talking about capris, here. How to wear: Let the pants make the statement; pair with a basic layered tank; if the pants are baggy, keep the top streamlined and fitted; cropped trousers are a great way to show off your shoes, so make the shoes count! Wear with strappy, chunkier-heeled sandals for a hip urban edge.
ASYMMETRICAL NECKLINES: Asymmetrical necklines have been sneaking up on us for the past few seasons, but for spring they are here in full swing. Dresses, tops, tanks, swimsuits -- you name it, asymmetrical necklines are there. They can be elegant, inspired by Nancy Reagan's signature look during her days in the white house, OR they can have an 80s rocker edge. This is a silhouette that is equally appropriate for day and night.
