After graduating from the Juilliard School of Drama in New York, Nancy Hower performed in many plays both on and off Broadway, including The Government Inspector, opposite Tony Randall on Broadway; Antony and Cleopatra, with Vanessa Redgrave at The Public Theatre; and Why We Have A Body, which won an Obie Award for Best Play. She also starred opposite Marcia Gay Harden and Julie Hagerty in The Years at The Manhattan Theatre Club and played Yitzak in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, opposite last year’s Tony winner, Michael Cerveris.
Hower then moved to Los Angeles after landing a recurring role as Ensign Wildman on UPN’s Star Trek: Voyager and went on to guest star in various television shows and independent films. She later started a band called Wench, for which she played rhythm guitar, sang lead and wrote the songs. Hower also performed a solo act opening for Meatloaf on his European tour. Her song “Prozak Grandma” is currently on The Curve soundtrack, and “Fernando,” a song which was co-written with John Patrick Shanley, was sold to An Alan Smithee Film.
In 2000, Hower wrote and directed her first film, The Wizard of Id. She then went on to write and direct the feature mockumentary Memron, which won Audience Awards at both Slamdance and The Taos Film Festival. 10 ITEMS OR LESS star John Lehr headlined the film and served as associate producer.
Hower just completed working on a project for Imagine Television/FBC entitled Take Me To Your Leader, for which she is the creator, executive producer, writer and director.
