Roger Bobb - Supervising Producer

Roger Bobb, Supervising Producer for Tyler Perry's House of Payne, was kind enough to sit down with us and share his thoughts on the show.

Q: What is the premise of House of Payne?
A: House of Payne is a television sitcom about a multigenerational family living under one roof. Curtis Payne, Fire Chief of Engine Company Five, loving husband to Ella and overly patient father to his freeloading son Calvin, now has taken in his nephew, Clarence “CJ” Payne, Jr. and his family of four after their house burns down. CJ, his wife, Janine, and their two kids, Malik and Jazmine, immediately take over and make Curtis feel like a visitor in his own home. When unforeseen circumstances turn CJ and his family’s temporary stay into a permanent one, life as Curtis knows it comes to a screeching halt. Now with three generations living under one roof, Curtis has come to the painful realization that he is now a permanent resident of the House of Payne.

Q: How is it to work with the cast?
A: Working with the cast is great. Each actor brings such a unique presence to the set and to the story. It is truly a pleasure to work with such a talented group of people from such diverse backgrounds.

Q: Why is the Payne family so relatable and likeable?
A: The Paynes are an everyday family that you can find anywhere in America. They are not wealthy or eccentric; they are your next-door neighbors, just funnier.

Q: Why is House of Payne a good fit for TBS?
A: TBS has become extended family to us. The network represents good wholesome programming and coincides with our vision here at Tyler Perry Studios.

Q: What makes you laugh?
A: Life. No matter where you are or what state you find yourself in, you must find the humor in life. It is what gives us strength.
