Fridge Facials

Raspberry Lip Moisturizer
Grab:
  • 1 raspberry
  • 2 tablespoons aloe vera gel (available at health-food stores)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
Go: In a small bowl, mash the raspberry with fork; combine with the aloe vera gel and honey. Apply mixture to lips, then avoid licking the delicious balm off for at least 10 minutes before wiping away raspberry seeds with a tissue. Store any leftovers in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, apply as often as needed.
How it works: Aloe vera helps heal sun damage, honey hydrates and softens lips, and the raspberry’s seeds slough away dead skin.

Melon Skin Reviver
Grab:
  • 1 cup cantaloupe
Go: Mash cantaloupe in a bowl (save leftovers for breakfast). Apply to clean face and neck. Lie down and let dry 20 minutes, then rinse with warm water.
How it works: Cantaloupe is high in antioxidants vitamins C and A, which help heal inflammation and protect skin from UV damage

Minty Sole Softener
Grab:
  • 15 fresh mint leaves (or substitute 6-8 drops peppermint oil, available at select grocery stores)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sweet almond oil
Go: Crush mint leaves (don’t chop; crushing brings out oils in the leaves) with the back of a spoon. In a bowl, combine mint (or peppermint oil), sugar, and almond oil. Scrub feet with mixture, paying special attention to rough spots. Rinse.
How it works: Brown sugar exfoliates, sweet almond oil moisturizes, and the mint leaves (or peppermint oil) give soles a refreshing lift.

Yogurt Razor-Bump Smoother
Grab:
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/2 medium cucumber, peeled and chopped
Go: Purée the yogurt and cucumber in a blender. Then put the mixture in a bowl. Sit on the bathroom floor on a towel (to avoid making a mess), and apply the yogurt-cucumber mixture to your bikini area. Grab a magazine (Health, preferably) and wait 15 minutes. Then rinse with cool water. Try using this recipe either after shaving or whenever you have a minor razor-bump breakout.
How it works: The cucumber acts as an anti-inflammatory to calm shaving irritation, while the yogurt’s lactic acid gently exfoliates your skin to help prevent future ingrowns.

Applesauce Deep Cleanser
Grab:
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons applesauce
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
Go: Combine all ingredients in a bowl, and stir well. In the bathtub or shower, apply the scrub in a circular motion to the areas below the neck where breakouts are most common (back, chest, and neck). Rinse.
How it works: Apples are high in malic acid and amylase enzymes, which slough away dead skin and dirt that can clog pores and cause breakouts. Sugar polishes away rough spots. And olive oil helps leave skin feeling soft and smooth.

Strawberry TZone-Zapper
Grab:
  • 1/2 cup strawberries (about 6 medium berries, stems removed)
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
Go: Using a fork, mash the strawberries into a pulp. Mix strawberries, honey, and lemon juice in a small bowl. Apply to face and leave on 8–10 minutes. Wash off with a mild cleanser and warm water. Use this mask in the evening, because the lemon’s citric acid can make your skin more sensitive to UV rays.
How it works: The strawberries and lemon juice, both natural astringents, tighten and cleanse pores. And the honey moisturizes.

Beer Frizz Tamer
Grab:
  • 1 ounce beer
Go: Pour the beer into spray bottle. After showering, spritz it on wet hair from roots to ends. Spread evenly with a comb. Blow-dry hair. If smell bothers you, use light beer, which has a milder scent.
How it works: Beer yeast is rich in protein and vitamin B, which help fly-away hairs stay put and add shine.
