Jonathan Trager (John Cusack) and Sara Thomas (Kate Beckinsale) met while shopping for gloves in New York. Shopping turned into romance, but Sara is not sure that their love is meant to be. The two go their separate ways to see if fate can bring them back together. After many years, both are engaged to other people, but still can't shake the possiblity of fate. Both enlist the help of their friends to help reunite the pair.
